To celebrate all things Harry Potter Warner Brothers, the production company that produces Harry Potter movies is releasing ultimate collector's editions of each Harry Potter movie. So far Harry Potter years 1 and 2 have been released along with Harry Potter and the Half Blood prince aka Harry Potter year 6. I must say that you have to be the ultimate fan to buy the ultimate editions because it contains all the special features the original DVD release had. But there are exclusive new features also. Each Harry Potter movie will have a Creating The World of Harry Potter featurette that will be a part of the seven part documentary. I am thoroughly enjoying my ultimate edition dvds. So many new special features. I am Harry Potter happy.

Four Days to "New Moon" Yay!!!
Here, at Floating in the Atmosphere, most anything and everything can be blogged about. But many know that I am an avid (seriously I don't think avid describes my obsessiveness) fan of The Twilight Saga. As I sit here typing, there are approximately four days to go until I get to see the second book, New Moon, on the big screen. I can not describe my excitement and my dread. Excitement, because in just four days I'll be able to see dear Edward Cullen and Bella Swan, lovers forever. Dread because the second book isn't my favorite. Why? Because in the second book, Edward is missing for most of the book. New Moon is about the period in Bella Swan's life where she is painfully missing the love of her life. When I was reading New Moon for the first time, I almost threw the book across the room and gave it up because there was too much of the other guy *coughsJacobBlackcoughs* in it. But then I came to understand that
That line is from a poem by Helen Steiner Rice, by the way. And just like the quote, by the end of New Moon, we find out that Bella does truly belong with Edward. But Jacob Black, the other guy as I call him, is always going to be Bella's special best friend, who will always be there for her even when she doesn't pick him. And as I think about Jacob Black, I would always like Bella, have a special place in my heart for Jacob Black. For being, not just a good, but a great friend. For bringing back Bella's spirit and smiles. And so, on the midnight premiere of The Twilight Saga New Moon I will be grateful that Edward and Jacob loves Bella.
True love is a sacred flame
That burns eternally,
And none can dim its special glow
Or change its destiny

In Honor of Veterans and Soldiers
Yesterday I woke up to watch "The Bonnie Hunt Show" and instead the memorial for all the slain soldiers at the Fort Hood Massacre in Texas was on. It was such a sad realization of life that no matter who you are, eventually you will die. I wanted to honor all the victims and all the veterans and soldiers that have sacrificed their safety and life to keep Americans safe for 233 years. Today is also Veteran's Day, a day to honor our heroes. I wanted to post this one poem that I discovered a couple of years ago yesterday, but forgot about it until today and realized today is Veteran's Day. The poem is called "My Boy Jack." It was written by a father, who lost his son to a war, named Rudyard Kipling. Yes that Rudyard Kipling of "The Jungle Book" fame. So to all Veterans and Soldiers, Thank You!!!
MY BOY JACK
by Rudyard Kipling
'Have you news of my boy Jack?'
Not this tide.
'When d'you think that he'll come back?'
Not with this wind blowing, and this tide.
'Has any one else had word of him?'
Not this tide.
For what is sunk will hardly swim,
Not with this wind blowing, and this tide.
'Oh, dear, what comfort can I find?'
None this tide,
Nor any tide,
Except he did not shame his kind -
Not even with that wind blowing, and that tide.
Then hold your head up all the more,
This tide,
And every tide;
Because he was the son you bore,
And gave to that wind blowing and that tide!

Ifs
At the risk of humiliating myself I am posting a poem I wrote several months ago. I was trying to capture the mood that I was in. At the time I felt that life was so short and hopeless that you could not possibly do anything to stop death.
If I should die by storm or fire
I hope the world will remember my desire
To find a love for my poor, poor heart
But Life has a way of ripping all apart
If I should lose all my family
I hope the world retains my memory
Of days gone by with love and joy
But Life has ways of finding things to destroy
If I should no longer breathe and live
I hope my name someone to give
To at least love and be loved back
But Life has a way of keeping us off track
If in this world nothing goes according to plan
At least my hopes and dreams to the stars’ command
To scatter among the heavens immortalized
But always Life, destroyer of hopes and dreams, dies

November...the busiest month
As I sit here in front of my computer, I'm also staring at my huge gigantic Twilight 2009 Calendar-specifically the month of November. This is the busiest month for me because not only do I get to celebrate my second favorite holiday- coughsThanksgivingcoughs-but it is also my sister's birthday month. Which happens to fall one day before Thanksgiving. I think that is just awesome. Sometimes her birthday falls exactly on Thanksgiving and that is a good thing because then I get to cook only once for two occasions. Cooking Thanksgiving feast can be exhausting, especially when you've over-stuffed yourself and have to clean up afterward. But that's why you make the males clean up after, right!
November 2009 also brings the New Moon, you know the Twilight sequel. I'm really excited for this adaptation. I really think that this movie is going to be a lot better than Twilight. Don't get me wrong, I thought Twilight was the bomb, even though some people loath it. But with a bigger budget and a director (Chris Weitz, director of About a Boy and Golden Compass) that has experience with CGI effects, I really think this movie is going to be awesome. Heck, I really loved the soundtrack that was released earlier in October, so how can I not love the movie? And yes I plan on seeing it more than three times!

Retellings
I've always been fascinated with the character of Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. Of course Elizabeth Bennet is one of the most beloved characters of all time and is the main character that we get to know the story from, but Pride and Prejudice wouldn't have been the same had Jane Austen omitted Mr. Darcy from this classic love story. So imagine my pleasure at discovering "Darcy's Passions" Pride and Prejudice told through Mr. Darcy's eyes. OK it's not a real Jane Austen work, but I really thought the author, Regina Jeffers did a great job of keeping chronological order of what happened through out the whole story. In Darcy's Passion we get to see what Mr. Darcy did and thought while everything we know happened to Elizabeth. The author also did a great job of keeping the original voice of the characters that we come to know and love, while also taking creative license in creating more depth for more of the flat and minor characters. In Austen's P&P, we know of Georgiana (Darcy's sister) only when Elizabeth gets to meet her. But I thought the author did an exceptionally great job fleshing out Georgiana's personality in this book. Overall I had great pleasure in reading this book...Now if only a certain author of Twilight would finish and publish Midnight Sun aka Twilight retold from Edward's point of view...I would be set.

September Musings
I haven't written anything of consequence of late and I still do not have anything of consequence of late to write about. Well except that Summer went by too fast and now it's time for hot soups and pumpkin and squash everything. Pretty soon it's going to be time for hobnobbing with ghosts and goblins. You know my most favorite holiday in the whole wide world...Halloween!!! I just love Halloween. I don't know why but I just love the feeling of camaraderie and nostalgia that Halloween creates in me. I love dressing up in costumes even though I'm too old for trick or treatin'. I love seeing cute, little babies in cute costumes that make you want to hug them and never let go. I don't, however, love passing out candies because I live in a house that has stairs. I must go up and down to shell out the goods...and that's just too tiring for me. So I make my dad do it. LOL!!!
